Tribal organisations oppose ST status
Several tribal organisations of the state including All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), NDFB-P, JACAS, PJACBM have opposed the granting of ST status to the six communities.
The former president of the Tribal Sangha, Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary criticised the central government for granting ST status to the six communities. He alleged that granting of ST status to the six communities is a political game of the BJP party.He warned to go for strong protest against the government's decision in coming days.
Promod Boro of ABSU said, 'Strong agitation will be carried out against govt for the issue'. He said that existing ST communities will step stern movement programmes against cabinet's decision.
NDFB-P general secretary, Gavinda Basumatary said that they would not accept center's decision.
JACAS chairman Kharsing Ingti also opined the same. He urged the govt to rethink about the status.
