AKRSU protests in Kokrajhar

The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) staged protest dharna and burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for not granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six ethnic communities, including Koch Rajbongshis in the state

Hundreds of activists from AKRSU and Mahila Samiti carried out a protest rally from AKRSU office Dimalgaon and burnt the effigies of the Modi, Singh and Sonowal at Kadamtala along the JD Road in Kokrajhar on Friday in protest against that BJP led NDA government has failed to announce to grant ST status to the six ethnic communities in the state of Assam.

On Wednesday,Union Home Minister Singh had announced several issues for the state of Assam,but granting ST status to the six-communities was not enlisted in the announcement. The ST status demand groups from six-communities expressed their resented over the situation and warned to take movements in  support of the ST status.

 The AKRSU members with banner,placards staged protest on the JD Road in Kokrajhar and burnt the effigies to put pressure to the centre government seeking early granting of ST status to the ethnic communities. The protestors have slammed the BJP led NDA government at centre and alliance government at Dispur for failing to solve the issue and demands of the ST status issues as BJP party had put promises during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

 The AKRSU and Mahila Samiti demanded ST status to the Koch Rajbongshis and reconstruction of kamatapur">Kamatapur state within Indian constitution.

‘The AKRSU will continue its mass movement seeking ST status and reconstruction of kamatapur">Kamatapur state till achieve of its demand.The movement will be strengthen in support of  ST issue and kamatapur">Kamatapur’, said  Kongkon Roy, AKRSU leader in Kokrajhar.
