A mini truck is destroyed in Kujibali Rail crossing when Guwahati-Dibrugarh bound Kamakhaya Express hit the truck at 9 AM today. Driver and other 3 persons of the truck were seriously injured in the accident. Sevelal accident is already occared in this open Railway crossing since last  fews years. In association with the Khadi and Gramudug Department, The North East Khadi Gramudug Mohasangha organised a district level PMEGP Exhibition at Nazira Natiya Mandir Campus from Feburary 17-21. Stone quarries are illegally operating at Bihubor under Nazira sub-division. Bihubor is famous for its stone reserves and most of Upper Assam is dependent on it. The State Forest Department earn crores of rupees from Bihubor stone quarries annually. With the help of a few forest officials two influential businessmen illegally set up 2 stone quarries at Bihubor. The quarries run without legal permits and required settlement permissions at the behest of the forrest officials. More so the businessmen duo extract stones by digging as deep as 60 ft by the River Dikhow.
After heavy campagin and war of words among different political parties, the first phase of panchayat poll held peacefully in Nazira with over 60% turn out to decide the fate of 14 Zila Parishad candidates, 68 Gaon Panchayat presidents, 68 Anchalik Parishad members and 480 Ward Members of Nazira Anchalik Panchayat. A total of 624 candidates are contesting in Nazira. 19 ward members of Congress(I) and one ward member of CPI have already elected as uncontested. There was no any report of untoward incidents in Nazira.
Poet and ex.president of Sivasagar district Xahitya Sabha Kamal Kachari passed away at Maduri, Nazira on January 27. He was 75. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and 2 sons. Different people and organisations condoled in his death.
