1st Inter Udalguri District School Athletics Meet held

In  a bid to tap the budding potential of school students in athletics the 1st Inter-Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at Tangla Stadium ground in Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of Udalguri district. The sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,Rally among others  were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud Das; Bhergaon SDO(C),Dithakananda Hazarika; District Sports Officer,Bhupen Rabha; Working President of Tangla Sports Association ,Khargeswar Boro; Internationally acclaimed Kabaddi referree,Nomal Rabha,journalist,Shajid Khan among others.From this meet, athletes will be selected for the state level athletics meet informed event secretary,Mukunda Sarma Baruah. The dignitaries also distributed the athletes with medals and certificates.

A power department employee Sujit Barman (40) working under Tangla sub-division APDCL at Hattigarh of Udalguri on contractual basis was electrocuted in Teliapara of Udalguri on Thursday. A 3rd APBN Police constable posted at the Panery PS of Udalguri allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday evening at about 8.30 pm by shooting himself in the barrack room. The deceased, identified as 38-year-old constable Ramen Borah , shot himself with his service INSAS rifle, said a senior police officer. The constable had shot 1 round which pierced through his head ventilating through the ceiling of the barrack room. He was rushed to Tangla CHC where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased is a resident of Pulibor Gondhia Gaon of Jorhat district. His body has been sent for post-mortem at Udalguri Civil Hospital. Police are inquiring into the case.

The Holi festivity gripped the people of the town which marks the advent of the spring.Though people were celebrating the festival of color with pomp and gaiety on Monday. The Bhergaon sub-divisional police had impounded several motorbikes of college youths who didn't have driving licence or were drunk. While the youths where made to wait till noon only to be fined . The guardians of the youths opined that without hassling the youths could have been fined on spot. The ‘moral policing’  had completly taken the sheen off the celebrations.
