TANGLA: In a historic change to the committee of the largest trade union organization of labourers in tea gardens of the Assam Valley in north-eastern India,Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha(ACMS) ,Mangaldai Branch after 34 long years,Rajya Sabha, Member of Parliament,Santiuse Kujur was elected for the post of Secretary at the Triennial session of the Mangaldai Branch here at Congress Bhawan in Tangla recently. Kujur who secured 26 votes defeated Ganesh Parega by a margin of 7 vote. Another new face was Paban Nayak who was elected as President. The session was attended by ex-MLA and ACMS Central committee adivsor,Bhimananda Tanti; former President of ACMS, Ismile Hilal; outgoing secretary of ACMS, Mangaldai Branch,Daial Sylver Kujur; ACMS, Biswanath Chariali Branch,Secretary, Nayak Dev among others. The session earlier started with hoisting of organizational flag followed by budget session and election of new body. Talking to Assam Times,Parliamentarian ,Santiuse Kujur expressed his gratitude to the delegates for electing him for the post. "I will try my level best to address the for the various issues plaguing the tea workers in the 23 tea gardens under the juridisction of the ACMS, Mangaldai branch.",Kujur said. He also reiterated to work in par with the principles of Indian National Trade Union Congress(INTUC) to establish an order in the society of the tea workers which is free from hindrances in the way of an all round development of the Adivasi community and will encourage the growth and building of human resource which will go to the utmost limit in progressively eliminating social, political and economic exploitation and inequality among the tea workers.
