Budding footballers feted
Tangla: In a bid to encourage budding players to excel in sports activities,Arunodoi Academy,a private sector school of Tangla in Udalguri organized a special felicitation event here at the school premises on Monday. The programme was organized to felicitate the young football players who represented the school and emerged City Champions in Junior Category at the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports School,Football competition on December 8,2017 at Betkuchi in Guwahati. The event graced as chief guest by journalist,Shajid Khan was attended by Bhergaon District Sports Association,Secretary Bhupen Boro,Principal of the institute, Nepolean Daimari,Principal of Arunodoi Jr. College,Pranabjyoti Das among others. Speaking on the ocassion Khan lauded the efforts of the school to tap the potential of the students in various co-curricular activities besides producing excellance in academics. He exhorted the players for maintaining regular practice to excel in coming days."The efforts of Reliance Foundation to provide a platform to the schools,colleges to showcase their skills and passion for sports thereby revolutionizing grassroots sports is laudable." He added.The school authorities as a token of love and appreciation distributed sports kits to the fifteen student players comprising a sports shoe and football boots each besides distributing the certificates and medals.The Reliance Foundation also provided a cheque amounting to Rs. 25,000 to the school authorities.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.
"We lost all our belongings including educational certificates of my daughter"said Sankar Basfor.
According to sources, properties worth around thirty lakhs was destroyed in the fire.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
