Nagen Bora passes away

Namrup:  A pioneer of the Assam Movement and founder of Assam Yuba Chatra  Parishad Namrup Regional Committee, Nagen Bora breathed his last at his own residence here in Namrup on Sunday due to old age ailments. He was 82 and left behind his wife, two son and three daughters.  Actively associated with a number of socio-political organizations of Namrup, Bora was sent to prison on a number of occasions during the Assam agitation.

His death was widely mourned.

Phone call strikes panic in Charaideo

NAMRUP: A sudden phone call a self-styled ULFA(I) rebel to a local journalist struck no less panic in a village in Charaideo district forcing the security forces to step in on Sunday. The caller from 7085896404 who identified himself as an ULFA(I) rebel claimed to have planted three powerful bombs in Pehipukhuri based high voltage power lines which have not exploded. NAMRUP: ULFA(I) rebels are now well equipped to monger trouble. They are believed to have procured sophisticated arms and ammunition to strike at regular intervals. Security forces in Charaideo district claimed to have seized MQ Assault rifle along with two magazines and 78 rounds of live bullets from the possession of Nirmal Asom whom they arrested during a combing operation on Saturday. Gloom in Namrup as Tai expert dead

Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup following the sudden demise of Tai expert and historian Kamaleswar Gogoi on Thursday. He is 77 and passed away at a private hospital in Dibrugarh at 8.20 in the evening where he was admitted when he complained of breathing difficulty.   Born and brought up in Namrup Nagamati, Gogoi joined  BVFCL in 1963 as an administration officer and stayed till retirement in 1994.He travelled abroad for conducting research on Tai language, literature and culture. As a result, he authored a few book on the subject.  As soon as the sad news spread like wild fire, people of all walks of life thronged his residence and paid him the last respect....

Villager dead in elephant attack

NAMRUP: After a brief gap, wild jumbos again have started unleashing a reign of terror in Namrup area killing a villager forcing the authority to step in.The incident took place at  Panichukia Bongaon where a herd of wild jumbos  sneaked into the human habitate in search of food and during the reign of terror, these wild the wild jumbos faced villager Joseph Orang at midnight and trampled him to death.The panic stricken villagers then called up the department which rushed some guards to disperse the elephants to the Joypur reserve forest by bursting fire crackers.

Assam agitation leader dies

Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup when Assam agitation leader, noted Social Worker and EX-  BVFCL Fertilizer Union President  Ashim Rajkhowa breathed his last at his own residence in the town on Sunday.He was 69 and died after a brief ailment. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Ashim Rajkhowa  was born and brought up in Golaghat Kamarbondha and joined BVFCL in 1969 and he was elected as the  BVFCL Workers’ Union president and in 2007 he went on retirement .
