Namrup AATASU stages sit-in

Namrup: More and more people in Namrup keep coming out to the streets opposing the move for Indian citizenship to the Hindu neighbours by amending the Citizenship Act.

The All Assam Tai Ahom Student Union staged a sit in at  Jeypore Tiniali on Wednesday continuing the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

AATASU’s Namrup leader Mrinal Handique said,” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal must think of the state, its people, language and culture since he took the oath to safeguard the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi must not forget his commitment.  We want to tell the duo don't try anymore to befool us.”

AATASU leaders  Simanta Gogoi , Sumon Gogoi   Rajib  Gogoi were prominent among those who were present in the sit in.

Namrup: Rebel elements still keep unleashing terror in many parts in the form of extortion apart from recruitment drive even in the festive season. Army and police apprehended an ULFA(I) rebel during a joint operation in Sivasagar district on Saturday who was said to have been carrying extortion and recruitment on behalf of the rebel outfit. Acting on a tip off army jawans from Maibela and Joysagar along with police launched a joint crackdown in Bokota near Nemuguri where, the rebel identified as Navadeep Chetia was arrested. NAMRUP: More than 3,000 tea garden workers and their family members raided the management of the Dilli Tea Estate in Namrup reiterating a slew of demands on Wednesday. GUWAHATI: Prominent citizens and social activists in Guwahati staged a sit in on Thursday opposing the decision of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to institute public hearing in New Delhi.
