Ghost of witch huntings haunt again

Kokrajhar:: The police have arrested eight persons a day after killed a person and injured a woman in the name of witch hunting incidents in Chirang and Baska districts sending statewide shock and anger.
The victim in Chirang is an elderly person who was killed by a group of villagers accusing him of indulging in witchery. In Baska, a group of villagers mercilessly assaulted a woman with the same allegations.
According to police, some unidentified miscreants brutally assaulted Sarat Basumatary at Runikhata in Chirang with sticks to be left critically injured. He was rescued and rushed to the hospital where he died.
Acting on a complaing, the police have held seven persons namely Swmla Borgoyary (24), Akhil Basumatary (20),Hoke Borgpyary(42),Prosenjit Borgoyary (43), Rebecca Wary @ Orke (27)Moken Wary (22) and Kashiram Borgoyary (53).

 In Baksa, an elderly woman was physically assaulted by a person for suspect of witch craft. The incident took place at Dumunigaon under Mushalpur PS in Baksa district late evening.
The victim was identified as Ramila Minj(52).
Police arrested a person who attacked woman,identified as Albert Ekka.
