Setback for Centre: NGT for fresh panel to study megadam

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi based National Green Tribunal on Wednesday has asked the Centre to set up a panel of experts afresh to study the pros and cons of the NHPC owned Lower Subansiri Hydro power project at Gerukamukh along the Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border.

Acting on a petition by Assam Public Works chairman Aabhijit Saikia challenging the justification of the three member panel a bench of the tribunal comprising Justice Dr. JAWAD RAHIM, Justice Mr. R S. RATHORE,Justice Dr. SATYAWAN SINGH GARBYAL admitted that the panel comprising PRABHAS PANDE, I.D. GUPTA and P.M. SCOTT should be replaced.

The bench asked the ministry of forest and environment to set up a new panel in consultation with the stakeholders
