Respect women: Sonowal in Dibrugarh

                Namrup: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed grave concern over the rising cases of sexual assault on girls and women reiterating his government’s firm commitment to ensure their safety and security.

 
In his address at a Bihu function in Dibrugarh on Monday, Sonowal said the mindset of the people need to undergo a change. He said cleanliness does not mean just to broom a place. In fact, cleanliness in heart and mind is very important.” A society will be on the track of progress only if women deserve respect” he said.

  Sonowal further urged the parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their sons and daughters which would help the society avoid many incidents of senseless and immoral activities.

Noted litterateur and former Asom Sahitya Sabha president Dr Nagen Saikia said only the society only accepts the progressive minds and not the ones that hampers peace and prospect. Law should be allowed to reign supreme, said Dr Saikia.

Pradip Hazarika a retired Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Brahmaputra Fertilizer Corporation Limited and a writer, founder of Samalaya Kobi Chakra, breathed his last at Assam Medical College Dibrugarh (AMCH) on Wednesday. Normal life was affected in Namrup as six communities demanding schedule tribe (ST) status called statewide bandh on Monday, marked by a few stray incidents. Koch -Rajbongshi, Moran, Motok, Chutia, Tai Whom and Adivasi tea tribe have called the bandh protesting the failure of the state and central government to fulfill promise of granting tribal status to them.

Forest department in Namrup is celebrating 68th Van Mahotsav from Saturday. Van Mahotsav is also being celebrated at Namrup Thermal SBI Bank campus, Namrup Thermal Subdivisonal office and Namrup Dillighat. Tree saplings were distributed on this occasion.     
The namrup police on Friday arrested four persons involved in thefts of two wheeler from Kanubari in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh. Police recovered one stolen bike from them. The accused have been identified as Mintu gogoi (18, Pranjal gogoi (23), Suraj Hazarika (18) from Abhyapur village and Ratul sonowal (19) from Khermeria village. According to police, they have acted after a report of stolen bike from the hosue of Anjali Boruah of Dilli Duwania village. Police regisrered a case under IPC 380 and sent the four accused to District Jail in Dibrugarh.
A rare black thorn fish pulled huge crowed after it was rescued at a local market in Namrup on Monday which later was rescued for proper conservation by thr forest department. The unique creature of 30 cm length was brought to the BVFCL namghar chariali by a retailer Dipankar Gogoi who procured it  from a local fisherman. The fisherman is believed to have caught it in a deep drain at Sonari tiniali. As the retailer Gogoi was selling fish in the market in the evening, suddenly the rare fish caught the attention of Sishuram Gogoi who rescued it. The Human Rights and Anticorruption Forum of Namrup organised an award distribution ceremony among the students who excelled in last HSLC and HSSLC examination at BVFC HS School on Tuesday. Three rank holder of Namrup were feted in the programme including few economically poor meritorious students. The programme was presided over by Human Rights and Anticorruption Forum Dibrugarh district committee President Amit Kumar Tanti. 
A 9-feet-long   Python, weighting 12 kg, was rescued  in a residential area of Namrup thermal power station. It was caught while consuming a duck in a garden. After noticing the python, the owner of the resident informed the Namrup forest beat office. A team of  forest staff rescued the python and sent to Jeypore Reserved Forest.
