Violence mars Central Assam Bandh

In support of its demand for inclusion of the Tiwa Autonomous areas in the Sixth schedule and demanding ST status for the Karbi people living in the plains, the Tiwa Students Union and Karbi Students Union have jointly called for a 24 hour Central Assam Bandh today on October 18,2008.

The vehicles are being run in tight security arrangements by the Police. A truck was burnt by the bandh supporters at Dighaliati near Raha at around 6.45 am while preparing this report.

Raha, Nagaon: Assam State Transport Corporation(ASTC) bus service from Kampur to Nagaon via Kampur-Raha route was flagged off on August 30 by the divisional superintendent, Apurba Barkakati of ASTC amidst cheers of the local citizens.
