Steep rise in Kaziranga rhino population

GOLAGHAT: Event after unstoppable poaching there has been steep rise in rhino population in Kaziranga if the just concluded census on the world heritage site is any indication.

According to the three days rhino census which concluded on Wednesday, Kaziranga is now an abode of 2413 one horn rhino population, 12 more than the figure found two years back.

The census started on March 25 with a huge team of 120 comprising forest department officials apart from a few NGO activities who divided the national parks in 36 parts for census by elephants and gypsies.    

Notably, repeated poaching incidents have been posing a serious threat to the one horn population forcing the authorities to deploy drone to deal with the escalating menace.
