RAHA , March 13 : The 12 hr Assam Bandh called by Tribal organisations of Assam from 5 am today in protest against the government's failure to fill up vacant posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes ended in the evening heavily affecting the normal life in Raha.
The vehicles both private and public plying on NH 37 were run by police under tight security arrangements. The government offices , financial institutions , shops , market and educational institutions remained closed during bandh hours.
Some untoward incidents like pelting of stones at vehicles plying on NH 37 also took place in the morning.
Apart from the other demands , the organizations have also demanded rehabilitation of the indigenous people of Laika and Dodhiya in Tinsukia district who have lost their land in erosion as well as voting rights for residents of 450 villages in Sonitpur district and 85 villages in Biswanath district in panchayat elections.
JAGIROAD: Amid an escalating shock and anger over the rape and murder incident in Nagaon, the Khetri police in Morigaon district caught a youth for trying to molest a minor girl on Monday. The incident took place at Kahikuchi near the National Highway No 37 on Sunday evening when the Class VI girl was forcibly taken away to a place by a local youth who raped her and left away. The local residents and family members rescued her and moved the police station with a complaint. Acting on the complaint the police have arrested the accused Raufik Ali.
