CPM withdraws candidate in Charilam by poll
AGARTALA: In a bizarre move, the Left Front in Tripura has withdrawn its candidate fielded for the Charilam constituency by election alleging an orgy of post poll violence two days ahead of the polls. This was more or less of what CPIM leader Gautam Das said in Agaratla on Saturday.
The party urged the Election Commission to defer the by polls in Charilam in view of the post poll violence. But that has not happened. A delegation of Left Front leaders recently met state Chief Electoral Officer Sriram Taranikanti urging him to further deferre the by poll.
The Left Front alleged that the BJP and its ally the IPFT have indulged in violence in Charilam constituency to antagonize the voters to are exercising their franchise on March 12. According to the party leaders, Palash Debbarma, whom CPI(M) fielded was forced to flee and take shelter outside his constituency for his safety.
