KOKRAJHAR: A least a dozen of people, mostly, drivers sustained injuries when an orgy of violence erupted during the 24 hours BTAD bandh call by a few non Bodo organizations on Tuesday opposing the land rightspolicy of the Boroland Territorial Council.
Bandh supporters in many places turned violence and set afire a few vehicles to enforced the bandh call. Some other supporters staged dharna opposing BPF’s stand on land rights of the non Bodo lots in BTAD areas.
An auto driver sustained serious injury when a section of bandh supporters in Choraikola area attacked him and poured petrol on his vehicle for defying the bandh call. He is batting with death at a hospital.
Some other supported enforced the bandh by burning tyres on the road apart from attacking a few drivers.
Vehicles are remaining off from the roads from 6 in the morning. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh which ends on Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of trucks and other vehicles are remaining stranded at various places along the 31C national highways in the area under the impact of the bandh.
Security forces lobbed tear-gas shells in Sidli to disperse the a crowd of supporters who blocked the 31C national highway(NH).
As many as left people sustained injuries when the supporters enforced the bandh call. These include three truck drivers and three bandh supporters. The drivers received injuries when the bandh supporters pelted stones at Champa bridge in Chirang.
A group of bandh supporters torched a bike at Chandrapara in Kokrajhar which belonged to Dwipayan Narzary, a teacher at UN Academy Kokrajhar as a teacher was coming to Kokrajhar via Chandrapara from Banargaon area.An FIR has been lodged against incident with police.

Governor J B Patnaik said that the government's counter insurgency operations have fetched dividends where the republic day boycott call was defied. Normal situation prevailed on Republic Day on Saturday. Trains and air services operated as usual though long distance and city private buses kept off the roads as the transport operators gave holiday to their staff on account of R-Day. Buses, private taxis and autorickshaws of state-run Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) plied as usual. Defying militant diktat, Republic Day was celebrated across the stat with much fanfare and cultural extravaganza. A powerful Improvised Explosive Devices was recovered ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Darrang district on Thursday.The bomb was found near the Mangaldoi police station and Republic Day parade ground in the morning. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Army court had taken a lenient view of the crime. He told reporters in Jorhat that he would urge the defence ministry to review the case to ensure proper justice to the 19-year-old victim. According to Gogoi, the army court has been insensitive to the seriousness of the crime and has taken a lenient view.He said that imprisonment for only three months is far less than the heinous crime committed by the armyman.
