Barpeta steals the march in holi

GUWAHATI: Assam continues to soak in the joy of Holi for the second day on Friday to mark the advent of spring where Barpeta steals the march.

The abode of the site of neo Vaisnavism breaks into a sea of humanity with lakhs of revelers sharing the celebration of the festival of colours.

The focus falls on a huge procession from the Vaishnavite monastery where people from the country and abroad are participating in it. Splashing colours to each others with songs in the lips the procession the event pulls huge crowd.

“This is for the first time I have ever seen the joy of holi since I came to Assam. I won't forget,’ said Jagannath Singh who is a businessman from Madhya Pradesh.

“Yeah. Wonderful. Exciting. I am so much excited to have catch s glimpse of it this time,”said a Japanese tourist who is taking huge delight in the event.

“This is our annual extravaganza which unites the people. The people of all faiths are participating in the procession. This is our tradition which will stand tall,” said Naren Das, a local school teacher in Barpeta.

The event which got off to a colourful start on Thursday will be over on Sunday

The Assam government has recommended CBI probe into the rhino poaching incidents that repeatedly rocks Kaziranga National Park. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the state government had already written to CBI for probe into the recent rhino poaching incidents in KNP. He said that it might be a big political conspiracy into the big horn animal killings, where militants are also involved. The move came 24 hours after poachers killed ome more rhino in the word heritage site. Assam had lost at least 42 rhinos in 2012, where poachers killed 21 rhinos in KNP. In this year, poachers killed seven rhinos in Kaziranga.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the Assam State Police Accountability Commission would be set up in several areas to ensure better public participation in accountability and transparency at various levels of police hierarchy.Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati that the panel now based in Guwahati will have a forum each in upper Assam, north bank of river Brahmaputra and Barak Valley in south Assam for the convenience of people.
