Bandh hits Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: Normal life in Golaghat remained heavily disrupted on Tuesday when All Assam Students Union enforced a 12 hour district bandh demanding action against Abdul Aziz who evoked huge wrath for passing lewd comments against women.
Roads across the district wore a deserted look since vehicles were not plying from early in the morning. All shops and markers, schools and colleges, banks and offices registered thin attended under the impact of the bandhcall.

APCC Refutes Reports of more Leaders Deserting the Party

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others,  former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time. Congress top leader quits party, joins TMC

New Delhi : In yet another significant development in the field of politics,  Assam's former Congress president and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora quits the party and joined TMC on Sunday. Emergence of AAP rattles BJP!

Guwahat: AAP has alleged a nefarious attempt by BJP in Guwahati to upset it's prospect for the upcoming GMC polls.  Talking to Assam Times, a senior leader of the party said that BJP/s youth wing has damaged a hoarding in Guwahati on Monday.  He said that this was followed by the removal of a few other AAP banners and hoardings in the Capital city by the administration.  Later in a statement, the newly emerging party said that BJP's the largest ever political party on the planet was rattling at the stepped up electioneering by a very small party which is in power only in two states.  AAP is contesting 40 wards out of 60 in the GMC polls slated for April 22.

Guwahati: The recent landslide victory in Punjab seems to be a morale booster for the Aam Admi Party in Guwahati in the run up to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election slated for April 22. Patrial withdrawal of AFSPA

New Delhi: The Centre has withdrawn AFSPA  1958 from 24 districts in view of an improved law and order situation. According to the notification, it would come into force from April 1,2022. Apart from the hills districts, AFSPA will be in force in Sivasagar, Jorhat,  Tinsukia.  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for the decision and hoped that the Act would be a thing of the past for the entire state in the near future. 

Assam,Meghalaya claim border row

New Delhi: Assam and Meghalaya claimed to have settled an interstate border dispute in 6 places at a meeting of Chief Ministers with the Union's home minister in New Delhi on Tuesday. The agreement was formally signed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta  Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma after a meeting that evening. Speaking to reporters waiting outside, the Chief Ministers claimed to have settled a decade-long issue in 6 areas and hoped for the same solution in 6 other remaining areas.  But both sides refused to divulge the details of the agreement, which is likely to trigger protests and anger among people living along the disputed border areas....
