AGARTALA: The high voltage electioneering heat and dust is closing in Tripura on Friday two days ahead of the assembly polls slated for
Sunday.
Polling officials,mostly, have left for their assigned centres from
Friday morning with EVM and other materials. The polling is taking place
from 7 in the morning.
Altogether 297 candidates are in the fray in the north eastern state
where BJP has fielded 51 candidates. The Congress has fielded 59
candidates. CPM has fielded 57 candidates leaving nine seats for its
ally, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).
The Trinamool Congress has fielded its candidates in 24 constituencies.
A total of 24 women candidates are contesting the polls to the 60-member
state assembly.
A total of 25,79,060 voters, including 12,67,785 females, are eligible
to cast their votes in the February 18 polls to elect a new Assembly.
The results of the polls will be declared on March 3 next.
Prime Minister attacked the CPI (M)-led 25-year-old Manik Sarkar
government of Tripura. Before his Tripura visit, Modi inaugurated and
dedicated a slew of development projects to the nation in Arunachal
Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi also hit the campaign trails
on Friday just before the end of the electioneering asking the people to
vote for his party.
