Bodoland demand gathers steam

 Kokrajhar: People thronged in thousands in at Kashikotra in Chirang district on Thursday reviving the separate Bodoland demand. The speakers at the huge gathering reiterated the demand to resolve the issue through political dialogue under Article 2 & 3 of Indian constitution.

 All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), People's Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Progressive (NDFB-P) leaders who organized the rally announced a series of agitation scheduled to mount pressure on the government. The fresh schedule includes personal letter to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Minister for Bodoland state through political dialogue by last week of February.

 Grand mass rally and protest dharna on March 19 at New Delhi demanding national policy to create new states in India, indefinite hunger-strike in the month of April, indefinite national highway and railway blockade from May and indefinite economic blockade in June next. Nearly lakh peoples from across the state with banner, placards participated the rally which was started from Kashikotra via 31C national highway to Kajalgaon Rural stadium in Chirang district.

  Former Rajya Sabha MP and UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma flagged off the rally.  ABSU leaders slammed the BJP led NDA government at the centre for not taking initiative to solve the demand and issues of the long standing of demand of Bodoland state. “Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has failed to keep his assurance over the Bodoland issue,” ABSU president Promod Boro who demanded early solution of the issue through political dialogue.

“It is a peoples’ movement in support of Bodoland state. The Government should come to the positive solution to solve the issue and demand of new states across the country,” said former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma.
