GUWAHATI: A 24 hour statewide chakka bandh heavily disrupted the road transport services in Assam causing immense inconvenience for the commuters on Monday.
All Assam Motor Workers Association has enforced the bandh from early in the morning raising demands to ensure welfare, roll back of fuel prices, amendment of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and withdrawal of ban on the movement of the e-rickshaws.
Private buses and taxis, trackers and auto rickshaws are off from the road much to the inconvenience for the commuters who find it difficult to attend the schools and colleges, factories and workshops, banks and offices in time.
ASTC buses are moving on the roads. But these services are too inadequate to accommodate the passengers waiting on the roadside.
Motor workers staged dharna in the district and sub divisional headquarters' raising their demands. The strike is ending only on Tuesday morning.
