NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday gave his assent to prosecute Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for his alleged involvement in the cash for job scam in APSC.
According to information, the presidential ascent would now enable the court to initial trial against the jailed APSC chairman. The special operation unit of Dibrugarh filed charge sheet against Paul. But the court had not taken cognizance of it without presidential nod to go against a person enjoying a constitutional post.
Paul was attested in 2016 by Dibrugarh police along with his closed associates. The confessional statements gave huge clue for the police to step up investigation and 27 ACS, APS and allied service officers have been jailed for allegedly resorting to forgery at the instance of Paul to ensure selection.
Eight more officers recruited in 2015 are under scanner who have appeared in the recent hand writing test as part of investigation.
