2 dead as bus rams into picnickers

DIPHU: Two people died and another is battling with life when a bus rammed into a group of picknickers in Karbi Anglong district on Monday.

The incident took place in the morning at Bheloghat where the pucknickers were walking in the spot. Suddenly, a speeding bus came and rammed into the group of people who came from a tea garden since the driver was believed to have lost control over the vehicle.

One died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Another is struggling with life in the hospital.

Police came to the spot and arrested the accused driver along with his associate in this connection.

"The driver, in fact, lacked experience which was why he had no control over the bus. Stern action should be taken against him," said an eyewitness.

Another picknicker said,"the main reason behind this tragic incident is rash driving by half experienced driver. This could have been averted."
