MONGOLDOI: Life in the trouble torn Dhola is limping back to normal two days after the semi urban area in Darrang district was put under curfew to defuse tension after two people were killed in police firing as they along with nearly 2000 others clashed with police.
The authorities have relaxed the curfew on Thursday afternoon in the absence of any stray incidents. Local residents came out of their homes and most of them thronged the residents of the deceased who were laid to rest amid tight security in the afternoon.
Additional chief secretary MGKV Bhanu is initiating probe into thr incident of police firing to disperse a group of irate protesters who alleged custodial death of a local worker inside the Dhola police station.
"Normalcy is back. The curfew has been lifted. But we are strictly monitoring the situation on every passing to ensure that these are not allowed to recur," said a senior police officer.
The district authority has assured the family members of the deceased duo of adequate compensation and Justice.
But the local residents have demanded exemplary punishment for the guilty police officer who is or are responsible for the custodial death of the local worker and the policemen responsible fir the firing incident where two protestors were killed.
