MONGOLDOI: An eerie silence prevails in Dhola a day after the semi urban area in Darrang district witnessed a shocking incident of police firing where two people were killed on Wednesday.
Army, police and para military forces are fanning in the nook and corner of the hyper sensitive area where the local residents mostly, have been keeping themselves confined to their homes.
Shops and markers, schools and colleges. banks and offices which closed suddenly on Wednesday are not opening on Thursday because of the indefinite curfew clamp to bring the situation under control.
Senior police and civil officials have been constantly monitoring the situation which deteriorated after the police firing where two protesters were killed as they clashed with the policemen in protest against the custodial death of local worker inside the police station.
PWD minister Parinal Suklavaidya is on a day long visit to the trouble torn area in the morning where he is expected to visit the family members of the two deceased. He is further taking stock of the law and order situation with upper Assam commissioner Mukti Gogoi, IGP M Agarwalla, DC, SP and others.
On the other hand, the local Congress leaders and activists are all set to stage a dharna in front of the DC office in Mangaldoi demanding Justice to the two protestors who were killed in police firing.
