The All Assam Students Union and All Bodo Students Union has accused the Gogoi government for its failure to ensure the identity of the indigenous people of Assam.
Addressing a press conference at the Swahid Nyash Bhawan, the student leaders termed the Udalguri and Darrang violence as a case of administrative failure. They have alleged that the Bangladeshi immigrants are going all out against the indigenous people.
AASU adviser Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya expressed grave concern over the feeling insecurity that grips in the minds of the the indigenous people and blamed the Gogoi government for not only remaining indifferent to the situation but also for taking sides with the Bangladeshi settlers and fundamentalist forces.
ABSU president Rwngwra Narzary said the communal flare-up in Udalguri and its neighbouring districts has now become a battle between Bangladeshis and the indigenous people.
AASU president Sankar Prasad Rai called it an unfortunate incident while general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi lambasted Assam Chief Minister and asked him to resign.
Both AASU and ABSU on Monday, in a joint memorandum, have urged governor S C Mathur to step in to bring the situation under control.

Its very disgusting to know and hear that the people of Assam especially the Bodos are becoming roofless in their own land. Its totally embarrassing and disappointing to see the recent developments taking place in Assam, particularly in the districts of Udalguri and Darrang in the BTAD. It shows how much our leaders and people are true to their land and their rights of being an indigenous people of the land.The word indigenous is totally getting lost day by day and people are not aware the fact that they do not belong to the land anymore. I wonder if the original people of Assam are still alive,if so where are they? It's a sad story to hear that the ruler of BTAD like Mr.Hagrama Mohilary and his loyal colleagues are playing a blame game,when the people of the land need their help and support in this hour of crisis,they are sitting in the hot seat and having the last laugh to see their own people die like slaves in the hands of the great and powerful Bangladeshis as Mr. Mohillary thinks. He thinks that he cannot run the BTAD without the presence of Bangladeshis. And our honourable Mr.Gogoi cannot eat, drink and sleep without helping the Bangladeshis. He is a fool who no longer knows his identity and where he belongs just for the sake of that tiny Dispur Seat. Thanks Mr.Gogoi and Mr.Mohillary for the great heart that you possess, for you can take your heart and kindness to Bangladesh too in spite of the crisis in Assam. They are so shrewd and talented politicians that they can run a parallel Bangladeshi government in Assam.You are the birds of same feather who can tackle the crisis of Assam with the help of the Bangladeshis. The history of Assam will never justify if the Bangladeshis are allowed to flock so freely.
Three peope have been injured while a powerful blast rocked a vegetable market in Nalbari. The explosion took place at 6in the evening. The injure peopes have been rushed to the hospital. They are Nalini Kalita, Rabindra Sarma and Biswajit Debnath. On the other hand, two hardcore ULFA cadres died at an encounter with army at the Dibru Saikhowa sanctuary. The Union home ministry has sent a slew of instructions for the north eastern states to deal with any situation during the Republic Day celebrations in the region. These instructions ask the state governments to take extra precautionary measures in view of Republic Day boycott call by United Liberation Front of Asom and three others. With less than 24 hours left for the Republic Day, security has been beefed up across the state to ensure peace and normalcy during the day. Besides intensifying patrolling on the streets, police and para military troops have been deployed at the vital bridges, railway stations along with oil and gas installations apprehending militant strikes. The Army jawans are monitoring the situation with helicopters in the city and its adjoining areas. Mean while, the Kokrajhar police have recovered a black polythithene bag which suspected to have contained some explosive materials in front of the Loknath Brahma Hospital at around 5-50 in the morning. The Bongaigaon police have recovered some explosive materials inside a bag from a bus which was on its way to Bongaigaon from Barpeta in the morning.According to information, the bag was recovered from the bus bearing No AMB 2081 during a routine check at the Chapaguri Road at around 10-35 in the morning on Friday. The bag was taken away to a safer place. Later police said the bag contained some detonators, 200 gelatin sticks, some clothes and medicines. Despite drizzling in January Coldwave, around seventy five per cent voters exercised their franchise in the fourth and final phase of panchayat polling in Darrang district on Thursday. The polling was by and large [eaceful.Hundreds of voters were seen making long queue in front of the polling booths till the end of the voting. NABARD has planned to invest a total Rs 2224.63 crore for 2008-2009 in Assam. Addressing a seminar held on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, the banks’s chief general manager C K Gopalakrishna said of this amount, the potential assessed for agriculture is Rs 886.38 crore , Rs 441.05 crore for industries while Rs 897.19 crore is being kept for services. He said in view of the thrust on agriculture and food processing industries, a credit potential of Rs 35.23 crore has been estimated for the year. The Black Widow has killed one Amri Rupsi in Haflong on Thursday morning alleging him to be a police informer. According to information, the publicity secretary of the outfit Phaisang Dimasa came to Rupsi at around 7 in the morning and took him away to the street and shot dead from a close range saying him to be a police informer. Amid tight security, Assam is going to the fourth and final phase of the panchayat elections in Darrang district from in the morning on Thursday. The polling is going on at 728 voting centers in the district. As many as 4,50,000 voters are voting for 3659 candidates. The voting will end at 4.00 pm. Around 70 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31, while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4. An estimated 74 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise in the third phase of polling on January 9.
Thirty-eight ULFA cadres, including a woman cadre, laid down their arms before the army in Tamulpur in Baksa district on Thursday morning. The group was by Nayan Kakoti who surrendered before the GOC 4 Corps Lt Gen B S Jamwal at 21 Mountain Brigade Headquarters of Red Horn Division. They further submitted a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 27 pistols, 18 grenades, 22 detonators, 30 kgs of explosives and 150 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Jamwal said the army was trying to bring back misguided youths to the mainstream adding that insurgency cannot bring any solution.
