Kokrajhar: Dwijing festival along the Aie river in Chirang district got underway at Rowmari behind Hagrama Bridge on Wednesday showcasing the plenty of sporting events apart from ethnic food stalls.
The festival has been organized by Chirang district administration and Organizing Committee to explore tourism prospects in the region,which will be continued till January 7 with 12-day programme scheduled.
BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary cut the ribbon to inaugurate the festival amid huge thronging of participants and stalls from different area of the state.
Hundreds of stalls,ethnic food stalls from different areas of the state and neighbouring Bhutan country are participating the festival which showcase ethnic foods and cultural troupes representing from different communities demonstrated cultural integration.
Activities like motorable paragliding, helicopter ride, elephant safari and attractions like indigenous food festival, indigenous sporting events have been arranged during the festival.
On the inaugural day, a delegation and stall from Bhutan country attended the festival along with visitors and expressed their happiness over the festival arrangement on the Aie River which is flowing from Bhutan country to the down stream of the state through the heart of Chirang district.
Mohilary said that the Dwijing festival is creating earning opportunities among the common citizens as the huge stall and visitors are thronging with great enthusiastic to witness the festival.
Ugen Rabten,secretary of Indo-Bhutan Firendship Association(BIFA) and a visitor from Bhutan has been lauded the organisers for hosting such mega event which is giving an opportunity to explore integrity and showcase of ethnic traditions and building cooperation in between India and Bhutan in near future.
