Villager killed in Tinsukia shoot out

TINSUKIA: A villager died and his son sustained serious injury when suspected ULFA(I) attacked their house at a remote hamlet in Tinsukia district on Monday.

The incident took place at 6.30 near Bordumsa in the evening when two gun men started indiscriminate firing at Anteswar Mahanta who was at his house premises.

Moran died on the spot while his son who was flanked by him sustained serious injury and was rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital where he is battling for life.

Security forces have arrived in the spot and a massive man hunt is going on in search of the gunmen who fled after the attack.

MARGHERITA: AJYCP leaders and workers in Margherita hit the streets on Wednesday in protest against the move to form the greater Nagalim with the inclusion of some areas of Assam. With banners, play cards and festoones, the protestors shouted slogans warning the government of dire consequences if Assam is forced to shed even an inch of land in the name of Nagalim.
