Oneness should be undistorted: Biren tells Rajnath

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh  told Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the Naga peace pact should not disrupt the age-old oneness of the state in the ongoing efforts to end the Naga problem.

Singh, who met Rajnath Singh in Kolkata on Thursday said he discussed the influx of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants and how to check it.  

Rajnath Singh also listened to CM Biren Singh, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the matter of the ongoing peace parleys between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).

The three neighbouring states of Nagaland are concerned that their state boundaries could be distorted if the demand of territorial integration of all Naga areas in these three states is granted by the Centre to the Naga outfit.  

NSCN (IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah has already claimed that the ‘Framework Agreement’ recognises this demand.

Briefing media in his chamber, the Manipur CM Biren Singh said Rajnath Singh was told to not disrupt the over 2000 years old oneness of the hills and valley of the state while trying to bring about a final solution to the decades-old Naga political issue.

“I’ve told the Union Home Minister that my government is always willing to extend any sort of help in the efforts to end the Naga problem, but we’ll never allow any attempt to impinge upon our territorial integrity,” he said.

He said Rajnath was also told in the meeting that the Naga settlement should be confined within the state of Nagaland.

The Assam and Arunachal CMs also made the same clear stand during the meeting with Rajnath, Biren Singh said.

In a media query the Manipur CM said the Centre has already assured that there will be no infringement on territorial integrity of Manipur because of the Naga solution.
