Sukafa award to Bimal Borpatra Gohain

The Assam Government will confer Sukapha award to noted Tai scholar Bimal Borpatra Gohain on Saturday. Chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal will give away the award at a function in Tipam, Jeypore in  Dibrugarh district on the Assam Divas. 

Born in 1930, Borpatra Gohain started his higher studies in Jorhat J.B. College and in 1956 joined the service as a science teacher in Simaluguri  High School.

In 1980, he started Tai Language Teaching Centre at Simaluguri High School and visited the various tribal places  for researching  the Tai language  like Tai Khamti, Tai Phake, Tai Shyam.  

Then in 1981 he  took the lead of the All Assam Tai Sahitya Sabha. He wrote many books on Tai Literature and on their tradition as a" Furalun , Ahom Bhasa Nidorkhon Puthi, Lik Pan  Khum Tai Ahom , Sumfa  Room San Moung".

NAMRUP: A sudden phone call a self-styled ULFA(I) rebel to a local journalist struck no less panic in a village in Charaideo district forcing the security forces to step in on Sunday. Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup following the sudden demise of Tai expert and historian Kamaleswar Gogoi on Thursday. He is 77 and passed away at a private hospital in Dibrugarh at 8.20 in the evening where he was admitted when he complained of breathing difficulty.   Born and brought up in Namrup Nagamati, Gogoi joined  BVFCL in 1963 as an administration officer and stayed till retirement in 1994.He travelled abroad for conducting research on Tai language, literature and culture. NAMRUP: After a brief gap, wild jumbos again have started unleashing a reign of terror in Namrup area killing a villager forcing the authority to step in.The incident took place at  Panichukia Bongaon where a herd of wild jumbos  sneaked into the human habitate in search of food and during the reign of terror, these wild the wild jumbos faced villager Joseph Orang at midnight and trampled him to death.The panic stricken villagers then called up the department which rushed some guards to disperse the elephants to the Joypur reserve forest by bursting fire crackers.
Namrup: A pall of gloom descends in Namrup when Assam agitation leader, noted Social Worker and EX-  BVFCL Fertilizer Union President  Ashim Rajkhowa breathed his last at his own residence in the town on Sunday.He was 69 and died after a brief ailment. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Ashim Rajkhowa  was born and brought up in Golaghat Kamarbondha and joined BVFCL in 1969 and he was elected as the  BVFCL Workers’ Union president and in 2007 he went on retirement .
