Rakesh Paul to move SC with bail plea

GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.

A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.

A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.

Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.

Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

Roads in Guwahati city are not wearing a normal look on Tuesday following 12 hour bandh called by KMSS in protest against Pramod Boro’s death after self immolation attempt.Bandh supporters in several places are trying to disrupt normal movement of traffic by burning tyres on the streets.Bandh supporters in Jorabat area burnt down a truck before staging a road blockade which lasted for two hours.  Police have already detained at least 20 bandh supporters for disrupting normalcy in the city.

At least eight persons sustained serious injuries when suspected NDFB-S militants exploded two powerful grenades at a market in Kamrup district on Monday.The grenades exploded at 6-30 in the evening at Gasbari near Goreswar when two motorcycle born youths lobbed the grenades---one at a fish market and another at a shop nearby.Eight people have been injured. Two of them sustained serious injuries to be shifted to the GMCH.Police called it a handiwork of NDFB-S which has been unleashing terror these days despite tight security in some pockets.Security forces are fanning in the entire area in search of the culprits.     
Caught in a barrage of criticism, chief minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered a high level probe into the self immolation attempt by Pramode Boro who succumbed to injuries on Monday evening.The probe would be conducted by an additional chief secretary and the report would be submitted with a few days so that the truth is unearthed.Boro, the KMSS activists from Gorchuk area died at GMCH where he was admitted immediately after he made a self immolation attempt for land pattas.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that his government will help the family members of Pramod Boro who died at GMCH five hours after the self immolation attempt in Dispur.The announcement was made two hours after the KMSS succumbed to burn injuries on Monday where the government came in for sharp criticism.
KMSS has called for Guwahati bandh on Tuesday a day after the death of Pranab Boro in self-immolation attempt. The bandh will begin from 6 in the morning to be enforced till 6 in the evening.The peasant body has blamed it all on the government for the entire uneasy incident in Dispur. On the other hand, body of the KMSS activist is being kept at GMCH for post mortem in the morning.KMSS activists are all set to take the body to Boro’s residence in Gorchuk by a protest procession.     
KMSS president Akhil Gogoi’s role in the death of Pranab Boro seems to have raised doubt. Senior journalist has moved Dispur police station with a complaint against Gogoi charging him with instigating KMSS fellows for self immolation attempt.Dispur police have registered a case against Gogoi on the basis of the FIR filed by Sanjeev Goswami.
