Rakesh Paul to move SC with bail plea

GUWAHATI: Amid the crucial probe into the APSC scam, the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition moved by chairman Rakesh Paul who has been languishing in jail for the last several months.

A disappointed Paul and his legal team now has no option to pin hopes on the Supreme Court for respite. His lawyers, sources, say are moving the apex court challenging the ruling on Tuesday.

A division bench of the court ruled that since the probe into the nefarious cash for job scam has reached a crucial stage, the bail is not advisable for the chairman.

Paul who two months back procured bail from the Supreme Court was rearrested acting on a fresh bribery case registered against him in Bhangagarh police outpost.

Sources told Assam Times that Paul is moving the country's apex court challenging the High Court's ruling on Tuesday.

Yet another incident of gangrape sends no less shock and anger across the state on Thursday. The victim is battling to survive at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.  The incident took place in Tamulpur areas where the local residents rescued a girl from a house where she was gangraped on Wednesday night.  The villagers, further, caught one of the rapists to be thrashed before handing over to the police. A fire that broke out at the Assam Secretariat in Dispur on Thursday reduced to ashes a few crucial files belonging to finance department.  Believed to have been originated from electric short circuit, the fire broke out when chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal was holding his cabinet meeting in the morning.  Within an hour, fire tenders brought the situation under control.
