Sweet shops in Imphal city inspected ahead of festivals

Police on Tuesday inspected sweet shops across the city ahead of Durga Puja and other festivals during which one shop was closed down for violating guidelines of Food Safety & Standards Act.

The inspection was conducted by a police team headed by Designated Officer of Food Safety Security Act, Imphal West, Y Satyajit and Imphal West Police Additional Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Laishram.

It inspected sweet shops at Paona bazaar, Thangal bazaar, MG Avenue and Alu Gali. Ready-made sweets, milk and other items used in making sweets were thoroughly inspected during the drive. 

The team closed down Imphal Sweets at Alu Gali for not fulfilling safety standard. “This sweet shop will remain closed until further order,” Y Satyajit said. He requested the people to bring any violation to the notice.

Additional SP Priyadarshini said, “All sweet shops must fulfill safety standards to ensure sweets for human consumption are prepared hygienically.”

She warned strict actions will be taken if any of the sweet shops are found violating the Food Safety & Standards Act. Priyardarshini said all bakeries in the city will also be inspected.
