The difference between AGP and BJP seems to have widened as the regional party openly opposed the BJP-led government’s move to support the mega dam at Geruksmukh along the Assam – Arunachal Pradesh border.
The party leaders who held a huge convention in Guwahati tore apart the move to roll out red carpet to the Hindu immigrants.
All leaders agreed to mount pressure on the state and Centre to implement the Assam Accord. A few leaders in the convention suggested the party policy makers to pull out of the coalition government to refurbish the image in the run up to the panchayat polls.
But the party leadership preferred to keep mum and stressed a mechanism to retain its character of regionalism.
