KGC students’ union elects new body

Derhasat Narzary elected as general secretary of the Kokrajhar Govt College Students’ Union for  2017-18 session in today’s counting of votes was conducted in a tight security arrangement in the college in Kokrajhar.

The election to the Kokrajhar Govt College Students’ Union(KGCSU) was held on Saturday and counting was conducted on Sunday in a smooth,free & fair arranged by Kokrajhar Govt College authority to elect new union body of the students in the college.The college authority appointed Prof PK Basumatary as Returning Officer(RO) to conduct the election in a smooth manner and its counting was conducted since morning.Till the fifth and final round of counting of votes, Derhasat Narzary was declared as winner electing as General Secretary for the KGCSU.

 Narzary elected as general secretary of the students’ union beating his nearest contestant Dularay Basumatary by 458 margin votes. For the vice preident post, Nabaraj Narzary defeated Nara Ratna Goyary by 417 margin votes. The election elected new general secretary along with 11 other portpollios of the KGCSU for the 2017-18 session. After winning the KGCSU election,supporter and students of the new union body, carried out a victory rally along with new general secretary in Kokrajhar town.

 Derhasat Narzary,newly elected general secretary,extending his thanks to all supporter and student colleague said that he will highlight welfare and development of the student community in the college.

 ‘We have got new general secretary in the college students union through election,which was conducted in free & fair situation’, said a student in the college.

 Prof PK Basumatary,Returning Officer of the KGCSU election said that the college peacefully conducted election and its counting of vote was concluded by smooth election procedures. There were five rounds of counting in which polling officer,counting agents were deployed to make grand success of the election.

  ‘There were 72.6% percent of vote cast was recorded in the voting pattern from students in the college. Through the result announcement,the KGCSU have new union body in the college’,he added.

More than sixteen hundred NDFB cadres today formally laid down arms. In a ceremony organised at GMCH auditorium in the presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal 1615 cadres of the outfit submitted their arms before the government authority. Welcoming them to the mainstream chief minister Sonowal hoped that the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA(I) would follow the path of the NDFB. A few days ago the government signed a tripritite peace treaty with all the factions of the NDFB. In the treaty the Centre and state government, reportedly, promised to upgrade the BTAD as BTR.
Several organisations including AAKRASU and ABAMSU have reportedly, called a 12-hour-long Assam bandh on January27 in protest against proposed UTC for BTAD. These organisations are apprehensive that the Union government is going to upgrade the BTC as UTC. Already, they have warned the Union government to abdicate such move.
Several organistions have expressed resentment over the Centre's move to upgrade the Bodo Territorial Council as Union Territorial Council. According to sources the Centre would soon sign a peace pact with the NDFB . In the pact upgradation of the BTC as a UTC would likely to take place, sources revealed.
