Organ donation awareness camp help
In a bid to bring about awareness on organ donation among the younger generation, a local NGO 'Rising Hands' in collaboration with Zublee Foundation organized an awareness programme on cadaver organ donation at Tangla on Friday.
The event which aimed at making school students understand and support the cause of organ donation was attended by playback singer and head, Zublee Foundation, Zublee Baruah, Director and CEO of the foundation Amitabh Gohain and Priyanka Baruah. Speaking on the ocassion Zublee Baruah said,"Teen understanding and awareness of organ donation is vital to meet the dearth of organs to millions of people."
She observed that ,"Human life can be immortal through cadaver organ donation since one person can donate organs and tissues and live in 8-9 persons. "Religious myths and social ethics have impeded cadaver organ donation in our country. There is a strong need of creating awareness for organ donation. Assam should make records in cadaver organ donation and should be known to the world as 'The Land of Immortals." she added.
Baruah also exhorted the people to draw the attention of the government to take necessary steps to make Cadaver Organ Donation possible in Assam.
The awareness meet inaugurated by social activist Boli Ram Deka was also addressed by CEO of the foundation Priyanka Baruah and Superintendent of Tangla CHC, Bijoy Chakravorty. Addressing the meet Dr. Nirmal Beria Joint Director of Health Mangaldai Civil Hospital said that the entire Udalguri and Darrang region has only single Blood bank which is Mangaldai blood bank and there is a need of setting up blood bank in Udalguri Civil Hospital.
A voluntary blood donation camp was also organized during the event by Rising Hands in association with Mangaldai Civil Hospital. A sophisticated and well equipped blood transfusion mobile bus assisted by IC Mangaldai Blood bank Dr. Daud Ali helped the donors to voluntarily donate the blood.
"We have received enormous response like previous years as nearly 35 persons pledged their organs and nearly 60 persons voluntarily participated in the blood donation camp" said Bikram Das of Rising Hands NGO.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.
The house belongs to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali,Bhim Ram,Raj Kumar Prasad,Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.

TANGLA, May 20: In an unfortunate turn of event a 32 year old reputed businessman Roshan Patowary an inhabitant of Ward No. 4 of Tangla town in Udalguri district was electrocuted to death while fitting an inverter battery at his residence at about 8 pm on Tuesday night.
