The All Assam Students Union held a huge rally in Namrup demanding a new plant in the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Co-orporation Limited ( BVFCL).
Other demands include an immediate steps to modernize II and III manufacturing plants of the country’s premier fertilizer manufacturing company.
In his speech, AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said, “ the basic purpose of the rally is to mount pressure on the centre and the state governments to setup yet another BVFCL Plant to enhance the brown field of Ammonia. During the UPA regime, the then Union Chemical Minister Ram Vilas Paswan announced ₹ 2600 crores for increasing the production of Urea from 3.9 lakh MT to 8.5 lakh MT. But no positive initiative emerged so far . But now the NDA Government has observed that due to scarcity of natural gas the project would be delayed due to paucity of gas.”
The rally proposed to mount pressure on the Centre to ensure the proposed unit at an earlier date.
Many local organizations joined the rally. They include present Namrup Anchalik Samanay Mahila Samitee , APL Workers Union , Fertilizers Workers Union , Fertilizer Swramik Union , Namrup Press Club , Heuji Sangha , All Assam Lekhika Samaruh , Samalaya Kobi Chakra , Assam State Powers Workers Union Namrup , Namrup Regional Student Union , All Assam Student Union Namrup , Namrup Senior Citizen , Tai Ahom Student U
