Zeliang stresses sustainable development

Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang accompanied by Lok Sabha MP&NPF President Neiphiu Rio and President of NPF Manipur, Awangbow Newmai attended the 2nd Conclave of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) held at Maharastra Sadan in New Delhi on Tuesday. 

The Conclave saw the attendance of BJP National President, Amit Shah; BJP National General Secretary, Ram Madhav; Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS for DONER and Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home apart from other dignitaries like Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, Pawan Kumar Chamling, Pena Khandu, Biren Singh, Zoramthanga, Neiphiu Rio, Atul Borah, Hagrama Mohilary, Paramananda Chayangia, Paul Lyndoh, Conrad Sangma, Rajen Gohain and others. 

While highlighting the plights of some odd 2000 Hindi Teachers in the State whose services are on the verge of termination due to its co-terminus nature as per guidelines of these CSS schemes, the Chief Minister urged upon the Central Government to give special impetus  to the matter. 

“ The service of Hindi Teachers in Nagaland are co-terminus with the schemes introduced in the State and this has to be rectified to secure their future while paying special attention in imparting Hindi Education in the entire NE region,” he said. 

Against the backdrop of the recent visit of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to Assam where Zeliang had earlier, highlighted the disaster that took place in the State due to heavy rain and flood, the Chief Minister reiterated the demand immediate relief and restoration of infrastructure destroyed as assured by the Prime Minister then.

“Immediate attention is required considering the magnitude in terms of loss of human lives and damages caused to private and public properties alike,” he said while adding that “Nagaland Government will soon be submitting a comprehensive plan in this regard.”

Also portraying the sorry state of air connectivity in the the State, the Chief Minister called for urgent improvement without further delay while adding that “Visa Checking System must be introduced in the NE region to ease the movement of goods and Citizens across the international borders of South-East Asian Countries without which tourism, trade and commerce is being hampered.”

Arunachalese to seek Chinese help!

An influential student body in Arunachal Pradesh threatened to take the resort of China in protest against the Supreme Court’s recent judgment for citizenship to the Chakma-Hajong refugees.  Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday, AAPSU leader Gumjum Haider said that they would have no option but to take help of foreign country for intervention at a time when China has been claiming the north eastern state.The apex court last month asked the government to grant citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees who had been rehabilitated in the state in 1964-69 after they fled their homes in Bangladesh.

Arunachal students hits Delhi streets

Students from Arunachal Pradesh hit the streets the New Delhi on Friday in protest against the Supreme Court's judgment granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees from Bangladesh living in the north eastern state.Holding placards in their hands, hundreds joined the protest organized by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union while some others shouting slogans not to make the state a dumping ground of refugees.Protesters told Assam Times that they have been tolerating injustice for years. “China repeatedly claims Arunachal Pradesh. Pushpa Bhuyan passes away

Noted Satriya dance performer Pushpa Bhuyan passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. She was 78. NE governors discuss act east policy

The north east governors are holding a conference in New Delhi to finalize the Act East policy. Assam and Nagaland governor PB Acharya aso also attending the conference organized by the ministry of external affairs. Minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj opened the conference where she stressed better diplomatic relations with the neighbours.JP Rajkhowa attedned the conference along with other north eastern governors. In his speech DoNER minister Jitendra Singh stressed proper utilization of the central funds in the entire region.  

NE cell formation in process

The Delhi government is preparing to set up the North East Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in the national capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal discussed it with Assam and Nagaland Governor P B Acharya in New Delhi on Tuesday. The membership issue was figured in the discussion at the Nagaland House. Kejriwal announced the North East India Support Cell and Monitoring Committee in August to handle issues confronting the people from the north eastern region. 

NRC: SC rejects AASU plea

The Supreme Court has rejected a plea for Central observers to monitor the verification process of NRC application. A division bench of the Court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohington Fali Nariman rejected the plea by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and authorised NRC nodal officer Prateek Hajela to use the gazetted officials in the process if need be. The court, however, asked Hajela to submit a report on the work completed so far covering the verification of application forms, aims and objectives, field verification reports.

NRC: SC extends date till Mar

The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the date for publication of the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) by March 1 next year. A division bench of the court consisting of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and R F Nariman further asked coordinator Prateek Hajela to file a status report on November 11. The bench had decided to continue monitoring the implementation of its directions.
