Union minister for chemical and fertilizer Ram Vilash Paswan on Tuesday inaugurated a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research centre in Guwahati to further boost the state’s health sector.
The national level autonomous institute was inaugurated at a function organized at the ITA, Machkhowa in the city by union minister for chemical, fertilizer and steel minister Ram Vilash Paswan.
In his address, Paswan said, “We are still lagging behind in the pharmaceutical sector. It needs to be improved.”
Addressing the function attended also by Union minister of state for chemical and fertilizer Bijoy Krishna Handique, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said his government has a slew of schemes to uplift the various sectors in the state.
Notably, the main objectives of the national level institute include ensuring state-of-the-art infrastructure of pharmaceutical study and research, addressing the increasing demand of medicine manufacturing industry.
The Assam Government has allotted a plot measuring 100 bighas while Guwahati Medical College principal Dr M N Deka has been posted as the director of the institute.

Five security personnel guarding Water Resources Minister Rajib Lochan Pegu have been injured when their vehicle collided with a dumper truck at Golaghat on Saturday. The incident took place on the National Highway 37 near Dergaon when Pegu’s convoy was on its way from Jorhat to Guwahati. Dispur is contemplating an education and employment generation panel to link up the two so that the youth could get jobs with their education.
