Uplift for health sector: NIPR begins in Guwahati

Union minister for chemical and fertilizer Ram Vilash Paswan on Tuesday inaugurated a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research centre in Guwahati to further boost the state’s health sector.

The national level autonomous institute was inaugurated at a function organized at the ITA, Machkhowa in the city by union minister for chemical, fertilizer and steel minister Ram Vilash Paswan.

In his address, Paswan said, “We are still lagging behind in the pharmaceutical sector. It needs to be improved.”

Addressing the function attended also by Union minister of state for chemical and fertilizer Bijoy Krishna Handique, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said his government has a slew of schemes to uplift the various sectors in the state.

Notably, the main objectives of the national level institute include ensuring state-of-the-art infrastructure of pharmaceutical study and research, addressing the increasing demand of medicine manufacturing industry.

The Assam Government has allotted a plot measuring 100 bighas while Guwahati Medical College principal Dr M N Deka has been posted as the director of the institute.

Stung by incessant criticism, Dispur police grilled Congress MLA Eanmul Haque in connection with a huge Rs 270 crore scam in irrigation department a month after a senior accounts officer committed suicide blaming Haque who was OSD when the scam took place. Altogether six persons died and 12 others have been injured when a passenger vehicle collided its head on a truck in Goalpara district of Assam on Sunday. The tragic accident took place at Paharkata area in the morning when it collided head on a speeding truck coming from the opposite side. Six persons travelling in the winger dead on the spot. All the 12 injured persons have been rushed to the hospital. Five of the deceased were identified as Syed Zaman, Safia Begum, Safiul Alam, Firajuddin Ahmed and Hakim Ali.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that proper education should be implemented from the grassroot level.In his keynote address at the Pan IIT Global Conference 2012 Science City Auditorium in Kolkata on Sunday, he exhorted the IITians to work for the development of society.
