Chapormukh: Calm but tense

An uneasy calm prevails in Chapormukh area in the central Assam district of Nagaon forcing the authority to keep the security forces on alert on Saturday.

The situation turned uneasy suddenly after a person belonging to a particular group alleged to have passed an uncharitable comment on the saint Sankardev to be confronted by a small team of youths who were organizing a huge rally in protest the Panigaon where a group of traders attacked give former ULFA rebels as they were raising funds to feed the flood hit people on Thursday. 

But immediate arrival of the security forces stopped the tussle from spreading in the evening. “The area has, mostly, Bangla-speaking people who have been doing business for years. Earlier, some mild tussles took place. But we want to warn them of dire consequences if they, in any way, want to confront us,” said Bijon Saikia, a Raha College student who attended the rally. 

Anupoma Kakoty, a local school teacher in the told Assam Times that tolerance is what the need of the hour. “See the people of Assam are waging a war only against a group of goons in the guise of traders. But not even a Bangla speaking person I have seen in this rally. They are keeping mum. Should not they come out?” 

The protestors in the rally solemnly vowed to fight the elements who have been trying to sabotage Assam and it's people apart from plundering the resources.

Several persons were severely injured when a clash between AASU and NSUI members reached its top position on August 11 at Jaluguti in Morigaon district. According to the information, the local AASU unit took out a protest march against various issues including the illegal Bangladeshi migrants while it was objected by NSUI members.
One Sumeswor Basumatary, a suspected NDFB member was arrested on July 16 from Kalagaon village under Howraghat police station. According to information the member was involved in several operations run by NDFB at various places of the state.
At around 8-35 am yesterday suspected DHD (J) ultras near Maibong in NC Hills district killed one CRPF man leaving drastically four others injured. According to the information received at Nagaon,the CRPF team was patrolling the area at the time of ambush. The dead has been identified as Deepak Kumar Mandal. The wounded are havildars B K Roy and Bikari Prasad, and constables U A Tantri and Gagandeep.
The 12 hour Central Asom bandh called by Tiwa Yuva Chatra Porishod (TYCP) passed off peacefully today in Morigaon and some parts of Nagaon district. The vehicular traffic remained off the roads during the bandh and financial institution functioned with a deserted look. No incident has been reported till writing this report.
In support of its demand for inclusion of the Tiwa Autonomous areas in the Sixth schedule of the constitution and to hold Tiwa Autonomous Council election,the Tiwa Yuva Chatra Parishod (TYCP) call for a 12 hour Central Asom Bandh from 5 am on July 9. The President and the Secretary of the TYCP Yamin Chandra Konwar and Khagen Bordoloi state that they also want the government to take firm step to stop the corruption rising among the Autonomous Council Members. In the name of routine check near Morigaon town chariali,two PSOs of the OC Morigaon Police Station allegedly beat up Manoj Deka,district secretary CPI,Morigaon at around 7 pm on July1. The eyewitnesses told this correspondent,Deka,the 52 year mild man on his way home from the market, was beaten so severely without any reason for which he is now fighting for life at the GNRC,Guwahati. Almost all organisations in Morigaon have condemned this brutal attack on Deka.Meanwhile the constable has been removed from duty. The Chief Minister of the state Sri Tarun Gogoi has today declared a magisterial inquiry to the said incident.
Acting on a tip-off, Hojai and Lanka police, assisted by CRPF jawans led by H Neog, Circle inspector Doboka, gunned down six members of a 14 members group of dacoits on July 2 at night around 12.30 am at village Pamgaon under Lanka Police Station. According to information the dacoits were in army camouflage dress and were forwarding towards Pamgaon irrigation canal Chariali through an irrigation drain at the time of ambush by police personnel. Police recovered six army uniforms, 2 pipeguns,1 shot-gun,1 revolver,2 sharp knives from their possession. Later the dead bodies were sent to Nagaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
