KSA calls 48-hour Manipur bandh from August 23 midnight
The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), which has been spearheading the movement demanding constitutional protection to the indigenous people of Manipur, has announced a 48-hour state wide general strike beginning midnight of August 23.
A KSA statement informing the decision accused the Manipur government of paying mere lip service to the demand raised by the association.
It expressed unhappiness over what it said non-fulfillment of promises made by the state government on exclusive seat reservation for indigenous people in every assembly constituency and removal of names of “outsiders” from the electoral roll.
The student body has also demanded that non-locals should be restricted from constesing elections in the state.
The association said that the decision announced by Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on the pressing demand in the recent assembly session was just on face value and therefore it has decided to intensify the movement.
The statement said electricity, emergencies and religious activities will be exempted from the purview of the strike.

An alleged infiltration of militants from Myanmar has forced the Chandel and Ukhrul district administrations in Manipur to imposed 144 CrPC within three km belt along the Indo-Myanmar border.The round-the-clock vigilance is in place after the authorities got the inputs of the infiltration of disturbing elements from across the international border.
