World Honey Bee Day on Saturday
The Assam Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam has decided to celebrate the World Honey Bee Day , in collaboration with Salt Range Private Limited, Guwahati on Saturday at Momai Tamuli Barbarua Training Hall, Khanapara, Guwahati.
The event is being organized under Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States(HMNEH). Atul Bora, Minister of Agriculture, Assam will inaugurate the programme in the morning.
Several bee keepers will attend in the programme. There will be Technical Session and Interaction Session for the benefit of bee keepers.
In this connection, a Training of Bee Keeper will also organised at Centre of Excellence for Offseason Vegetables, Khetri, Kamrup on Friday. It
Honey available in Assam is unique and varying and it has huge demand. Honey from this State is wild in nature and is known for its natural sweetness. A large variety of flowering plants is available in this region. Taste of honey of the Assam differs from plant to plant. Honey obtained from litchi flowers is the sweetest. Honey available in the Assam is obtained from litchi, Mango, eucalyptus, mustard, coconut, drumstick, jamun, orange etc. Honey obtained from amlokhi and hilikha is bitter in taste and it cures breathing problem. Jamun honey cures diabetes.

Women's Day was celebrated by Society and Heallth in collaboration with sSTEP at Guwahati on THursday. An octogenerian street dweller of Panbazar Sukleswar Mandir inaugurated the occasion. Bina Hazarika, noted writer and social activist , passed away at Marwari Maternity Hospital, Guwahati on November 5, 2015. Born in Goalpara in 1932, she was married to Late Tara Prasad Hazarika, noted freedom fighter. She leaves behind her sons, daughter-in-laws, grandsons, granddaughters and a host of relatives and admirers. Her cremation at the Bhootnath crematorium was attended by a large number of mourners.

1st Assam International Agri-Horti Show 2014 will begin from Wednesday at Guwahati. Participants include the America, Italy, China, Myanmar, South Africa, the UK, Laos and Israel. "This is the largest conference cum exhibition in the agriculture and horticulture sector in the North East. It will showcase the strength of Assam in cultivation of different varieties of crops," said Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka. The Assam government has urged the Centre to support the cold-chain development project in Assam for the benefit of farmers and consumers.
