Mild quake shakes Nagaland

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Nagaland on Thursday striking panic button for many people in the north eastern hills state

The earthquake, which originated in Zuhenboto district struck the state at 13.08 hours forced many people to come out of the high rise buildings in the urban areas.

There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.

The rains have relented much to a major respite. But the flood waters have refused to recede putting more and more people in dire trouble. Defying rebel diktat, Assam is gearing up to celebrate the Independence Day with a massive security arrangement on Tuesday.  Police and para military forces are fanning in the nook and corner of the north eastern state where ULFA(I) and NDFB-S along with other north eastern rebel outfits announced general strike asking the people to boycott the celebration.  The capital city of Guwahati is being fortified with  security forces stepping up checking and patrolling.
