Sonowal honours 4 freedom fighters

Assam Chief Minister on Friday felicitated for freedom fighters in New Delhi three  days after they attended a function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Sonowal honoured Motram Hatimuria from Charaideo district, Narendra Nath Haloi from Nalbari district, Golok Hazarika and Nirmala Goswami from Lakhimpur at a function organized at the Assam Bhawan in the morning.
In his speech, Sonowal said,”Your commitment to the cause of India's freedom is a fountainhead of inspiration for us.  Your successful struggle against colonialism brought us freedom from British rule and this will continue to inspire and motivate generations to come.”

President Ram Nath Kovind felicitated them along with 93 other freedom fighters from across the country on August 9.

A pro talk ULFA delegation is rubbing shoulders with top home ministry officials in New Delhi on Tuesday to break the decade old peace logjam in Assam. Led by ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, the six member delegation is initiating the talks with Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrish. The ULFA delegation is strongly believed to have asked the government to ensure the participation of the recently deported ULFA founder general secretary Anup Chetia whom a special court on Monday remanded to judicial remand. The ULFA delegation is also trying to get an appointment with Union home minister Rajnath Singh in a day or two.

The Supreme Court has refused to hear the review petitions of Assam, West Bengal and Kerala on the ban on the photographs of political leaders on the government advertisments saying that it would be taken up in January as soon as the Centre files its affidavits.  A bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose on Tuesday declined to pass any order saying that it would hear in January the petitions including by the centre seeking the review of its verdict. The court fixed January 12 as the next date of hearing.
