A group of Chakma people from Mizoram staged dharna in New Delhi on Sunday alleging that even after clearing the entrance test, Chakma students from the north eastern state was denied admission in the premier medical colleges.
Many Chakma students thronged the Jantar Mantar in the capital at 11 in the morning and staged a sit-in alleging utter racial discrimination and willful negligence by the authority. .
Talking to Assam Times, the protestors said,” we have no option but to resort to protest since our four student friends were denied admission in BBS course even after they stood 4th, 9th, 17th and 23rd in Mizoram in the National
Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), 2017. Even they were denied entry in the counseling course recently.
“We find it difficult to understand what goes wrong with Nibhir Tongchangya, Darshan Chakma, Nibir Chakma and Mini Chakma who were disallowed? They were allotted seats in the premier seats of medial science like Gauhati Medical College, Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, Jodhpur, Burdwan Medical College, West Bengal, and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur", said another protestor.
