AASU protest in Namrup

The All Assam Students Union (AASU) Namrup unit staged a protest in front of the main gate of Assam Petrochemical Limited (APL) in Namrup on Thursday demanding continuation of  the APL L.P. school.  and to remove the labour camp set up inside the school. The protesters destroyed the camp.

A 500 TPD new methanol expansion project of the Assam Petrochemicals Limited, Namrup  was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal  on Tuesday.  While inagurating Sonowal said that the expansion will bring give new scope for the upcoming generation and  financial benefit of the state.  Setup at an investment of Rs. 1337 crores, the expansion project will help more than 2000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, Sonowal added. Local MLAs from Tinisukia, Thowra, Sonari , Mahmora, Digboi, Duliajan, Moran, Naharkatia  were present in inaguration ceremony. More than 5000 local people witnessed the mega event.
Namrup falls silent when the idols of the goddess of strength were immersed on Saturday evening. The devotees took out huge processions across the industrial town on the way to immerse the idols with traditional religious fervour.  On the other hand for the first  time, BVFCL Daily Bazaar Puja Mandap has been awarded the best Puja pandal  in  town category by  GTPL V&S. Properties worth several lakhs were reduced to ashes when a house caught fire in Namrup on Thursday. The incident took place in Salibasa near the Durga temple at around 10.30 night when the local residents were busy with the puja. Suddenly people noticed smokes bellowing from the house of Amal Bora which engulfed the entire building within half and hour. Fire tenders from BVFCL and APL brought the situation under control. The real cause of the incident is being investigated and the extent of damage would be assessed later on.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay the foundation stone of the APL Expansion project in Namrup on Friday. Disclosing this at a press meet on Tuesday, APL managing director  Ratul Bordoloi said " the manufacturing cost for  the new APL Expansion Project is Rs 1338 crores and it will be becompleted approximately within 3 years . After the completion of the project it will produce 500 TPD of  Methanol per day.”   
Properties worth several lakh have been reduced to ashes when a devastating fire gutted a Sikh temple premises Namrup in on Tuesday.  The incident took place at around  10 at night which originated from a cloth shop inside the temple premises within an hour. According to the shop owner Biswajit Dhingia, "around more than 10 lakhs of property destroyed in the fire". Fire tenders from BVFCL took the situation under control.

The All Assam Students Union held a huge rally in Namrup demanding a new plant in the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Co-orporation Limited ( BVFCL). Other demands include an immediate steps to modernize II and III manufacturing plants of the country’s premier fertilizer manufacturing company.
