Nazira Press club observes Foundation Day

History is the back-bone of a nation and no nation can thrive without its history,” said Mayur Bora, a well-known writer in a seminar organized by Nazira Press Club on its 26th Foundation Day on Saturday at Nazira. The seminar on “Study of History and the identity crisis of the ethnic people of Assam” was organized in the memory of journalist Pabonath Sarmah and Nilo Guhain with a day-long programme that saw distinguished gathering. Mayur Borah and Rajdip Bailung Baruahwere the chief guests. Both the speakers dwelt at length on the negative effects of globalization and free market economy that has been depriving the ethnic people of their rights on their own land. Hiranya Kumar Bhattachaya, Hemakanta Sarmah, Keshab Borgohain and Prasanta Dutta were felicitated by the Nazira Press Club on the occasion.

Several ethnic groups in Assam are facing identity crisis only because of globalization if Rofikul Hussain Baruah is to be believed.Talking to reporters in Nazira on Tuesday, the renown historian said that the identity of the the indigenous communities including Tai Ahom, Mech Kachari, Deuri, Goria,Moria are on the verge of extinction. He feared that these ethnic communities may lost their own identity in their homeland.According to him, these people have already lost their right over land and resources in all the major cities and towns of Assam. ONGC will start its state-of-the-art hospital in Rajabari in December this year.This was what AASU told reporters in Nazira after a meeting with the oil major officials on Thursday.ONGC officials further agreed to implement other promises in the meeting with AASU leaders in Jorhat. Poverty will never be an impediment for Rijit Konwar who brought glory for Nazira with 10th top position in the HSLC results.Hours after the Nazira body got the results, MLA Debobrata Saikia visited Rijit at his residence and promised Rs 25,000 in cash to pursue HS course..         
Rijit Konwar of Nazira Higher Secondary & Mulit Purpose School secored 10th position in the HSLC examination 2015. He   got totel  587 marks. Though several organizations are voicing their opinion on the process of NRC, the Government of Assam is all up to complete the task of updation. In Nazira rural some 50 per cent people are not aware of the NRC updation. The indigenous communities have kept away from collecting NRC data from available sources on the pretext that they are indigenous. They perceive it as a matter of insult to their native origin and ego.Similar is the condition of the indigenous populations of the district of Sibsagar. A handicraft and handloom fair is pulling huge crowd in Nazira where local products seem to have been received good response.People in large number have visited the week long fair at Nazira MC Club from May 5 organized by industry and commerce department.  The focus of attraction was the saler-buyer meet where both sides shared their views.  Talking to Assam Times assistant director of industry department Babul Hazirika said the response was encouraging.
