Nazira Press club observes Foundation Day

History is the back-bone of a nation and no nation can thrive without its history,” said Mayur Bora, a well-known writer in a seminar organized by Nazira Press Club on its 26th Foundation Day on Saturday at Nazira. The seminar on “Study of History and the identity crisis of the ethnic people of Assam” was organized in the memory of journalist Pabonath Sarmah and Nilo Guhain with a day-long programme that saw distinguished gathering. Mayur Borah and Rajdip Bailung Baruahwere the chief guests. Both the speakers dwelt at length on the negative effects of globalization and free market economy that has been depriving the ethnic people of their rights on their own land. Hiranya Kumar Bhattachaya, Hemakanta Sarmah, Keshab Borgohain and Prasanta Dutta were felicitated by the Nazira Press Club on the occasion.

A group of local residents of Nazira has formed a society called "Human Welfare Society" with a 13-member committee. P.C. Baruah and Md. Nasar Khan were selected as the President and General Secretary of the Society. The group has been extending their services since last 2006 for medical treatment to mentally retired persons n Nazira sub-division apart from other social welfare works.
Pragati Maina Parijat, Nazira organised a 15-day Children's Drama Workshop on July1 to 15, 2012 at Srimanta Sankardev Sanghs Namghar. More than 70 children took part in the workshop. Lakuwa reporter of Guwahati-based television chanel DY365, was physically assaulted by some miscreants at Bihubar, Nazira on Tuesday. They brutally attacked him and smash his camera. Namsaijan watershed management project was launched on last October 14 2011 at Nazira sub division. This project will cover 23 revenue villages of Ramoni, Rohdoi, Bantung and Simaluguri Gaon Panchayats. The project will complete at a total cost 4 crore 20 lakh rupees. Dr. Hemoprova Saikia, Chairman of Assam Tourisim devlopment Corporation inaugurated the programme by lighting up a lamp. Inaugurating the project local M.L.A. Debobrot Saikia expressed his happiness over sanction of the scheme and thanked the Union and State Govt.
