“History is the back-bone of a nation and no nation can thrive without its history,” said Mayur Bora, a well-known writer in a seminar organized by Nazira Press Club on its 26th Foundation Day on Saturday at Nazira. The seminar on “Study of History and the identity crisis of the ethnic people of Assam” was organized in the memory of journalist Pabonath Sarmah and Nilo Guhain with a day-long programme that saw distinguished gathering. Mayur Borah and Rajdip Bailung Baruahwere the chief guests. Both the speakers dwelt at length on the negative effects of globalization and free market economy that has been depriving the ethnic people of their rights on their own land. Hiranya Kumar Bhattachaya, Hemakanta Sarmah, Keshab Borgohain and Prasanta Dutta were felicitated by the Nazira Press Club on the occasion.

The first Book Fair of Nazira organised by the National Book Trust in association with the civil administration of Nazira and the NGO Probaah from March 23 to 31 at Nazira Gandhi Maidan ends successfully. 125 book stalls participated in the fair and several seminers were held on different topics. Vetern social worker and ex. Vice Chairman of Nazira Municipal Board Md. Ali Hassan daied after a prolong illness at his own residence of Nazira on March 23. He was 65. He survived by his wife, 2 sons and 1 daughter. Hsan was an active congress leader of Nazira and serving as a vice-chairman of Nazira Municipalty for several times. The First book fair of Nazira organised by the National Book Trust of India in association with the civil administration of Nazira and Probah has started at Nazira Gandhi Moidan on March 23. The 12 years old child labour Ajoy Chick, who was working in a stone creaser of Lakshmijan and seriously injured in an accident 4 month ago. But he is yet to recover. Family members alleged that the owner of the creaser is not providing any financial help to the injured child labour.
With the help of a few officials of the forest department, several illegal stone quarries and creasing machines are running at Lakshmijan and Bihubor of Nazira sub-division. Lakshmijan and Bihubor is famous stones quarries and the Govt. earns substantial revenues from these areas. But due to the illegal queries, govt is loosing revenue. Transit Challans are sold by shop keepers in front of the Forest Beat Office of Lakshmijan. On last March 16 forest department staged a few Illegal stone stocks at Lakshmijan.
The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election....
A number of illegal wine shops are seen in operation at Simaluguri Railway Station and its nearby areas. The concencerned authorities are not taking any action against the sellers so far. This inaction is also contributing to growing number of anti-social elements in this area.
